I first visited Mendocino in 1984, while on a trip with my father to tour Stanford University in Palo Alto. We had flown out from Denver to visit Stanford as a possible college destination for me, and after the tour we took a side trip up the coast to visit an old college friend of my father's (and nationally reknowned sculptor) Wheatley Allen. That leg of the California trip was unforgettable — I still recall seeing the village and the beach for the first time, and having fresh sourdough and cracked crab at the Allens' stunning farmhouse property in the redwoods. My head was turned toward California, and in the end I was fortunate enough to be accepted by and attend Stanford, where I graduated with my B.A. in 1989.
After college, California was permanently in my blood, a condition most of us around here share. I lived in Santa Barbara for a number of years, and in the hills above Oakland, but few experiences were more gratifying than when my wife Jill and I bought our first home, here in Mendocino. Since then we have extensively remodeled our 1800's farmhouse, built a unique guest barn beside it, and have lovingly re-landscaped and reworked the property into our dream homestead.
Going through this process has given me an education in the systems of grading, design, architecture, engineering, permitting, building, even interior decorating, which are particular to this area. This knowledge base complements my real estate experience, which has come not only through training and in the field, but also through growing up in the shotgun seat of a father in the real estate field, and through managing my own real estate portfolio from a relatively young age.
Since joining Mendo Realty, I have also purchased a wonderful property management business, Applewood Property Management. Run by Jill, myself, and our assistant Martin, Applewood manages many long-term residential rental houses here on the coast, as well as a handful of high-end commercial rentals. We also caretake some of the finer estates in the area, on behalf of owners who want help with their properties while they are away. This business has brought full circle my understanding of the coastal real estate environment in all its many facets.
Jill and I have been blessed with two children, Mae and Auden, and are wholly and passionately committed to the well-being of our community here, on behalf of ourselves, and especially our two little ones. I am just as committed to working with diligence, energy, and creativity to achieve the greatest goals of my clients.
